Dear Halifax Transit and Councillor Watts
I am writing to you to express my grave concerns over the proposed elimination of the Route #7 loop that covers Kencrest, Glebe, St. Pauls and Vestry Streets. The proposed route change detailed in Halifax Transit's "Make Transit Better" plan fail to live up to the plan's name. Those currently served by the Route #7 loop will walk nearly 1km uphill from their homes to catch the bus. Alternatively, riders can walk up the hill through Merv Sullivan's Park. Unfortunately, this is a steep path that both seniors and those with mobility issues, strollers and other items would find treacherous to traverse. In the winter, this path is made especially dangerous due to the steep of the steep incline, combined with ice and snow. The path is also unlit in the evenings, posing further safety risks for riders. The detour to cover the 'Kencrest Loop' adds one kilometre to the length of the route, equating to two minutes of drive time. Along the route are hundreds of residents living in single family or multi-unit dwellings. The elimination of this loop could result in residents finding alternative means of transportation, harming the overall viability of the route. I oppose the proposed changes to Halifax Transit Route #7 due to the listed safety concerns, and potential negative impact on the service. I hope that you take this into consideration and reject the proposed changes to this route. Thank you for your time. Sincerely |
